Golfers and CBD

CBD (cannabidiol), a cannabinoid extracted from hemp, has become very commonplace as a natural supplement. Interestingly, sports players have started to embrace the naturopathic remedy with widespread enthusiasm. Golfers and CBD have been making the news as notable PGA and Champions Tour players have started to go public with their enthusiastic use of the compound since it was officially removed from the banned substance list in 2018.

Golfer Billy Horschel and CBD

For a year Billy Horschel experienced a significant downturn in his game. He did not make the top-eight finish, but he believes that he found the golden elixir that improved his ailing golf game. The five-time PGA Tour winner announced that he had started to use CBD products when he failed the cut at the British Open. After he started using CBD, he achieved four top-eight finishes in four months and was again playing at the top of his game.

The 2014 FedEx Cup champion believes strongly that the use of CBD infused topical creams is what helped him achieve greatness again. He states that CBD improved his sleep and reduced inflammation in his ankles and knees.

Other Golfers and CBD

Other golfers besides Horschel are also taking notice of CBD and speaking out. Bubba Watson (a respected two time Masters champion) along with Scott McCarron who is the current Schwab Cup winner for the Champions Tour have all become outspoken endorsers for CBD products.

PGA Tour Warnings re: CBD

Without a doubt, the golfing world has a very conservative reputation, so the widespread acceptance of hemp-derived CBD is interesting. People often use CBD to treat symptoms associated with pain, reduce inflammation, ease feelings of anxiety, and help minimize seizure disorders. It has been legal for use by golfers since 2018 when the World Anti-Doping Agency took it off their banned substance list.

However, just because it is no longer a banned substance does not mean that Tour officials are embracing it. In fact, in 2019, Tour officials outright warned players that they might potentially fail a drug test if they used CBD products that contained detectable levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

THC is the psychoactive compound found in marijuana and is also contained in a much less percentage in hemp. CBD derived from hemp can have less than 0.3% THC by law. However, some sensitive drug tests can still detect even minuscule levels of THC. The Tour’s anti-doping policy considers THC the same as cocaine.

CBD Isolates

CBD isolates that contain no THC are also an option for anyone worried about facing a drug test. At Also Organics, our products contain only trace amounts of THC which can be up to 0.3%. You need not worry about experiencing psychoactive effects from consuming our products.

Horschel opted to use topicals for direct application on his ankles and legs. At Also Organics, we’ve developed a topical CBD pain salve in 1000 and 500 mg of CBD. We also offer high-quality CBD hand lotion and skin balm.

Anyone who enjoys the game of golf might want to consider using CBD to improve their physical well-being and enjoy a better game. Clearly, golf and CBD has become very commonplace. If you would like to learn more about our CBD products at Also Organics, please contact us today.
